How to Select the Right load moment indicator for Crawler Cranes

To enhance crane safety, it is essential to install a load moment indicator. This device continuously monitors the crane's operation in real time, issuing warning and alarm signals based on its operational status, thereby significantly improving the safety of crawler cranes.

For smaller-tonnage crawler cranes, the standard configurations presented on this page sufficiently meet safety protection requirements. The crawler crane load moment indicator components shown here require minimal assembly, providing a cost-effective yet reliable safety system. Installation and calibration are straightforward for both new and existing cranes, allowing for rapid deployment.

For larger-tonnage crawler cranes, which typically feature complex structures and operating modes such as main booms, fixed jibs, and luffing jibs, selecting a load moment indicator requires additional components. This system is specifically designed for large, complex crawler cranes and comprehensively monitors all operating modes—whether using the main boom, luffing jib, or other configurations. The modular load moment indicator design allows selective connection of components based on actual operating conditions. For example, when operating a heavy-duty crawler crane solely with the main boom, jib components can be omitted without affecting normal operation. Jib components should be connected only when the jib is in use.

For both small and large-capacity crawler cranes, selecting the appropriate load sensor is crucial when choosing a load moment indicator. Our default option is the pulley-type load sensor, which is compatible with all crawler crane models. Alternatively, if your crane was factory-equipped with a load sensor, we can replace it. To do so, you will need to provide the original load sensor’s specifications, including dimensions and measurement range. Please note that this process may take longer. Of course, you may also opt for our default load sensor. Regarding monitor selection, we recommend 7-inch or 8-inch displays for smaller-tonnage crawler cranes and 10-inch monitors for larger-tonnage models. The larger display offers a more comprehensive view of parameters and operational status.
